Lieguliu Fm

Period:
Neoproterozoic

Age Interval:
Middle Nanhuan (early Cryogenian), Nh (44, 45)

Province:
Sichuan

Type Locality and Naming

South-central Sichuan. The Lieguliu Fm was named by the No. 1 Team of Regional Geological Survey of Sichuan Bureau of Geology in 1960 and formally quoted in 1967 (Guidebook of 1: 200 000 Scale of Geological Map of Mianning Sheet). The typical section is situated in Lieguliu village near the Lianghong station of Ganluo County, Sichuan Province.

Synonym: (列古六组)

Lithology and Thickness

The Lieguliu Fm is dominated by tuffaceous rock. Lower part is composed of red purple conglomerate or pebbly tuff. Upper part consists of purple red intercalated with greenish gray banded sandy tuff, tuffaceous sandstone, siltstone, mudstone, tuffite and tuffaceous shale. The total thickness of the formation is 100-400 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Volcanic ash

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The lowermost 4 m of pebbly sandstone rests conformably or disconformably on the purple red feldspathic lithic tuffite at the top of the underlying Kaijianqiao Fm. Elsewhere in south Sichuan, the underlying formation is the Huili Gr (e.g., Tianbaoshan Fm).

Upper contact

The top part, a bed of dark purple silty mudstone and tuffaceous siltstone, is bounded by the gray thick-bedded quartzose sandstone in the bottom of the overlying Guanyinya Fm

Regional extent

South Sichuan. It is limitedly distributed in Lianghong, Daxiang Mt., Xiaoxiang Mt., Luoji Mt. etc. of Ganluo County, Sichuan Province, and also in the Hanyuan, Ebian and Hongya areas.
